Where Did I Put That File? Print E-mail

filesindrawer80.jpgIf you sometimes forget where you placed a certain picture, file, or folder, you can document it by copying the path of the image or the file. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, after you create the document, while you know just where it is, just hold down the shift key while right-clicking on the file. A pop-up menu will appear. Choose Copy as Path from the choices. This will put the exact path into the Windows clipboard so you can paste it into an email or a document list. It will appear something like this:

"C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\IMG_0061.JPG"

If you are printing the document and you would like to keep a record of exactly where it is, you can past this address at the top or the bottom of the document before you print it and you will always know where that document is.

If this doesn't work the first time you try it, be sure to hold down the shift key while you right-click the mouse.

Sorry XP users, this shortcut is not available in Windows XP. Good reason to upgrade.

Extra Tip: You can remove the quotation marks from the address and cut and paste it into your browser address bar for a quick access to the file on your computer.
