Temporary FileThese are files that are created by a program for their own use in performing calculations or storing information. Many different programs use temporary files. Internet browsers use temporary files to cache (store) copies of web pages so they can be loaded more quickly when needed again. Each program is to delete their own temporary files after use, but, for a variety of reasons, temporary files often are left on the hard disk. Over time these can accumulate and take up disk storage space. The Windows Disk Clean Up utility can be used to delete temporary files or they can be deleted manually.
