software/wilddivine.jpgToday’s fast-paced world has everyone moving quickly through stress-filled encounters. Technology and computers often add to our stress and aggravation, so it is only fitting that we also use the computer to help us relax. Is there really a way that the computer can help us relax? You bet there is.

It is a software program called Journey to Wild Divine: The Passage. The program comes with its own biofeedback mechanism…3 finger sensors that are clipped on your fingers and connected to the computer via USB port. The idea is that the program takes you through lush forests, beautiful gardens, and resplendent structures on a journey to relaxation. The biofeedback finger sensors measure your skin conductance and heart rate. The objects that you work with in the program respond to the amount of tenseness or relaxation in your body as determined by the sensors. During your journey you have opportunities to use and play with a wide variety of objects. You can levitate objects, juggle balls, and open doors. The trick is that you do all of this by controlling your breathing and tension levels.

You don’t realize how uptight you are until you try to relax enough to control the objects on the screen. My first attempts were ineffective, but following the screen hints and prompts helped me get started. Reading the “How to Play” screen instructions helped even more. I had a tough time trying to relax enough to make the bellows blow air to stoke the fire. But once I got the hang of it, it all seemed fairly easy….and very relaxing.

The scenery in the program is wonderful. There are lush forests, snow-capped mountains, birds, and interesting buildings. The entire program is well-designed and created to make you feel good. It is also easy to follow. Sophia is an on-screen guide that introduces you to the program and how it works.

Once you get going, you create your own experiences in Wild Divine and you are in complete control of where you go and what you do. There are enough different places to visit and people and circumstances to experience to keep the game fresh for a very long time. “Bookmarks” allow you to play as long as you like and pick up right where you left off when you return to the game.

You will find that this program has a definite spiritual feel. Some of the settings have a definite “Buddhist temple” feel. The program offers to help you develop a deeper concept of who and what we can be. Yet none of this is offensive. In fact, the entire journey is uplifting, intriguing, and relaxing. If you need to de-stress from the hustle and bustle of your life, don’t turn to the medicine cabinet, instead try a
