Microsoft is planning an exceptional future for Windows 10 which will no doubt creep into our future, as well. I’ll give you a clue…. It has to do with a new Mixed Reality. Get a glimpse of the future here.
There is little doubt that Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality will have a place in our future. Virtual Reality puts you totally into a new reality…an entire new world. Augmented reality keeps you in the current world but augments that world with virtual avatars and an amazing array of virtual props. They are both coming on strong as I mentioned in a previous article explaining the differences between Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Microsoft is banking on Augmented Reality with their google-type head gear called the HoloLens. In fact, they are now calling their HoloLens a Mixed Reality device rather than an Augmented Reality device. Perhaps that is a better name for Augmented Reality since it really does mix the two realities together.
At the recent Computex convention and in the accompanying blog post, Terry Myerson the Executive Vice President of the Microsoft Windows & Device Group opened Windows Holographic to partners around the world. They are in the process of developing partners with Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, HTC, Acer, ASUS, CyberPowerPC, Dell, Falcon Northwest, HP, iBuyPower, Lenovo, MSI, NASA, Volvo, Lowes and others.
Meyerson’s blog post gives some amazing samples of what this Mixed Reality can do. Check out the Microsoft video listed there as well as some of his other examples and you will be getting a glance into the future.
