High-Tech is a Girl’s Best Friend
Posted by Sandy Berger on August 4th, 2006
Diamonds used to be a girl’s best friend, but a recent survey by the Oxygen Network found that 77 percent of the women surveyed would opt for a new plasma television over a diamond solitaire necklace. The study also reported that 86 percent of the women would prefer a new digital video camera to a pair of designer shoes.
What?? They just figured that out? Even the Sex in the City girls who wore $800 shoes also carried gem-encrusted cell phones! I am often outraged by the fact that women are portrayed as low-tech peons who have to ask their husband and children for tech advice.
I’ve been in technology for over thirty years and I find that even those women who have just joined the computer revolution and happily jumping on the bandwagon. Most of the women I know are making decisions about purchasing computers, digital cameras, and MP3 players for themselves and for their families, as well. So speak up girls! Let’s let the world know we are intelligent, tech savvy and are movers and shakers in the high-tech world as well as in the kitchen!

Hi Sandy, I just found your site because I googled “cleaning computer screen” and there you were telling me how…and it worked. So thanks.
You said to speak up, so I will. LOL
In my house, I am the geek. Even though my husband played with the computer before I did, I surpassed him. 6 years ago, I very seldom turn on the computer and I would check my mail once a month if I remembered. LOL Now, my computer is on cable so it is always on, I have to check my 3 email boxes every day otherwise I could be swamped for days.
I took an online html basic course 6 years ago and that did it…I have since then acquired more knowledge by searching the net and trial and error and also learned css and graphic design on my own. I have built many websites for myself and others. I have clients offline as well as online. And I love every minute of it. If I could, I would be on my computer 24 hours a day…and I’m 59 years old!
I’m going to mention your site on my blog as I’m sure my women will find help here one way or another. Thanks

HI Sandy,
Women these days are not interested in frills to show off with. They want something solid that they can get some use out of. Diamonds are nice to wear, but you can’t do anything with them except look at them. We are more technology savvy now and want something useful to show off our knowledge and make life easier for us. These gadgets give us more confidence around men in the business world and show them that we are someone to be reconned with. We are not just pretty show things, we can actually hold our own using new technology. Not only can we cook, we can rock the world.
