Google Hacks

by Sandy Berger

Google is the search engine of choice for most serious Web searchers. Google Hacks is the book that will help those users make the most of their Google experience. Although the average Google user will certainly find tips and tricks to make their searching easier, this book is really for power users. To get the most from this book, you will have to have a rudimentary understanding of HTML or a scripting language. If you do, this book will help you put Google on steroids.

Google Hacks contains a wealth of information about how Google works. It follows the hacker mentality of digging deep into the inner workings of a program or system. This produces tips and tricks that will help you use Google to find whatever information you need, whenever you need it. It not only goes in Google’s search syntax, but offers advanced search syntaxes and delves deeply into the Google API. If you didn’t know that API stands for Application Program Interface, this book may be too advanced for you. Programmers, webmasters, and advanced computer users will happily use this book to delve into Google’s depths. It even includes information on how to build and modify scripts that can become custom business applications.

Google Hacks is well written and compiled. While much of the information contained in the book can be extracted from the Google Web site, Slashdot, and other geek sites, this compilation gives all the information in one place making it worth the price of the book.

If you are interested in the details of how Google works and are, at least, an advanced computer user, Google Hacks will prove very interesting. If you are more of a novice looking for General Google information try the $9.95 Google Pocket Guide.
