Internet Resources for All

by Sandy Berger

Several things about the Sandhills (The area in North Carolina where I live.) have always impressed me. The weather is perfect (most of the time), the landscape is beautiful (all of the time) and the people are great. I have, over the years, been pleased to find that many of the people here are not just nice, they are extremely talented people who use their skills generously to benefit others. Jim Anderson, who is a Professor & the Coordinator of Computer Engineering Technology at Sandhills Community College, is such a person.

A few years ago, Jim, who is a long-time Internet user, decided to create a web page where he would list a few of the top web sites for his students and associates to use as a starting point for finding things on the web. Over the years Jim added his own favorite sites and others at the college contributed their favorites. The result is a wonderful compilation of web site links. Jim's site has become a useful tool not only for his students but for others in the Sandhills and around the world, as well. The site is easy to use. Just click on the topic that you are interested in and you are given a list of some of the best sites that the Internet has to offer on that subject. Click on the item of your choice and you are taken to the appropriate website.

Jim's background and his interests and hobbies have formed the basis for his Internet Resources website, giving it a lot of personality. You will not find any sports or business issues covered on Jim's site. But you will find a myriad of information on computers, learning, research, web graphics, programming, and astronomy. Jim has also included many general interest sections like news, weather, maps, gardening and cars. If you want to find a job, Jim's website will point you in the right direction. If you're interested in finding free software, his website will show you where to go. This is an especially good Internet site for new Internet users who would like to find out some of the things that are available on the Internet.

As you know, the Internet is constantly changing. The upkeep of the site is a major consideration. Jim is constantly adding new links, removing old ones, and improving the site with new navigational techniques and features. He says that the site takes up every spare moment and estimates that he spends more than 20 hours a week working on it.

Jim is also the developer and webmaster for the Sandhills Community College Home Page on the Internet. Jim is quick to announce that this is one of the very best Community College sites on the Internet. It is quite comprehensive, so if you are looking for a class schedule or any other information about the college you can find it at this website.

Jim's Internet Resource website can be found at http://scc.pinehurst.net. Try it, I think you'll like it.
