Microsoft isn’t the only large company that has security issues to deal with. Symantec Corp. recently announced that most of its security software, from Norton Internet Security to the Symantec Firewall, requires urgent updates. Four critical vulnerabilities were found that could allow viral worms to enter.
Symantec has posted patches to correct the flaws. The patches should be installed as part of the Live Update feature in most packages. Some software may require the manual download and installation of patches. If you use one of these Symantec products, you should run Live Update as soon as possible.
Products affected include Norton Internet Security 2002 through 2004; Norton Internet Security Professional Edition 2002 through 2004; Norton AntiSpam 2004; Norton Personal Firewall 2002, 2003 and 2004; Symantec Client Firewall versions 5.0.0 through 5.1.1; and Symantec Client Security 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 2.0.0.
This is yet another example of security holes in software. Don’t think that only Microsoft is affected by these software flaws. Be sure to update your Windows or Mac software, anti-virus software, firewalls, and spyware detection program on a regular basis. This is the only way to be sure that your computer is protected from viruses, worms, and hackers.
