Finding a Certain Word on a Webpage Print E-mail
Written by Sandy Berger
highlightwords.jpgIf you are using Firefox, just click on Edit then choose Find (n This Page). A box will appear at the bottom of the page. Fill in the word that you want to find in that box and click Highlight all to mark each instance of that word in yellow. You can also use the Next and Previous arrows to move from one instance to another. Be aware that the Find bar in Firefox appears at the bottom of the screen and you may not see it unless you look for it there.

In Internet Explorer 7, Click on Edit then choose Find (on this page). A popup window will appear where you can type in the word you are looking for. Unfortunately, Internet Explorer lets you find the instances of the word by click on Up, Down, or Find Next, but it doesn't let you highlight the words.

Internet Explorer 8 has a different way of finding words on a webpage. If you look carefully at the top of the page, you will see a text box with a magnifying glass to the right of the text box that you use to fill in an Internet address. You simply type the word or words you want to find into that box and choose FIND. Each instance of what you typed will be highlighted.

If you  like the idea of highlighting the words, you can do so by installing the Google Toolbar. The Google Toolbar which is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. After you have the Google Toolbar installed, you simply type the words you want highlighted in the Google search bar. Then instead of pressing enter or search, you click on the yellow highlight icon and the word or words you typed in the Google search box will be highlighted on the page. The Google Toolbar is especially useful because it will highlight several words using a different color for each word.
