Memory Card Tips Print E-mail

sdmemorycard.jpgAs computers and digital devices get smaller and smaller, so do memory (storage) cards. These cards are used for cameras, MP3 players, and cell phones to store pictures, music, and data. Mini SD cards are smaller than your thumbnail. I don't have to tell you that these cards are very easy to lose. So when you purchase a memory card, be sure to choose a small case to store it in when it is not in your device. You can purchase small cases that hold two or three memory cards or you can simply choose a small, secure case that you may have lying around the house.

Although most people try to purchase the largest memory card that they can afford, purchasing several cards with smaller capacities can also be beneficial. Smaller capacity cards will be better priced than the equivalent single card. Also, if a card is lost or fails, (It does happen!) you will lose less data than you might with a larger card.

When shopping for a media card for your camera, consider buying two or three smaller cards rather than one large one. Though it may force you to stop and swap media more often, you'll lose fewer images if a card fails or is lost. Multiple smaller cards may also cost less than an equivalent single card.
