If your computer suddenly seems slower than molasses, here is the first thing you should look at.
A computer uses the hard disk as a kind of scratch pad when it performs some calculations. When the hard disk fills up, it doesn't have enough resources and the computer slows down considerable. So the first thing you should do if your computer slows down is to check to see how much room is available on the hard disk. To do that:
Double-click the My Computer icon or click Start, then My Computer. Click on the icon marked Local Disk (C:) On the left side you will see an area called Details which will show you the total disk space and the free disk space. If you do not see these right-click on the C: Drive and choose Properties. This should give you a screen where you can see how much space is used and how much is free.
Remember you need at least 10% of the total disk space free for your computer to operate efficiently.
