I am a VISTA Home Premium user. At one time I could mark an area of the screen by dragging the right side of the mouse and could send it directly to the printer or send it to other options. For some reason this is not working any more. Have I turned it off? If so, how can I turn it on again?

Take a look at the print dialog box under the Printing section on this link...http://www.uwec.edu/help/WinVA/print-bas.htm

It is for printing with Vista operating system, but is similar to WinXP and other OS'es as well..... On the left side, middle and toward the bottom you see a couple of places where you get the chance to tell the printer to print your "selected area" or "selection"..... For those options to be available and not grayed out, you first have to be sure that you have highlighted (or selected) those sentences, paragraphs, or portions of a file or web page so that they are bolded.... Then when you click on File >> Print on the menu bar or click your printer icon on the Tool bar, the chance to be sure there is a tick in the bubble next to selection on the mid-left part of the print dialog page or using the drop down arrow at the left bottom area of the page, use "selection" from the Print what option...

The key to having those "selection" options available to you is having an area highlighted or selected on the document or page that you want to print.... I have on occasion highlighted an area, and during the course of moving my cursor up to the Printer icon or the File Menu>>Print Preview or Print choices have accidentally un-highlighted a choice or selection by inadvertantly bumping the mouse button or tapping the touch pad on the laptop while I was moving the cursor position.... When I am not given the chance to choose selection, then I know what I mistakenly did and have to go back to the document and again highlight / select a portion to print....... Roll Eyes

Hope this helps .... If no accidental un-selecting is being done or just a matter of not selecting a portion to print, come back and let us know and we can look further to some options.........

<<<< I could mark an area of the screen by dragging the right side of the mouse   >>>>>

If I misunderstood your question with my previous answer, after re-reading your question I see this portion of the question.... To highlight an area of a web page or a document, you drag the cursor while holding down the left mouse button..... then once an area is selected, you can do a right mouse button click and from the drop down menu select Print..... Just that area selected by dragging the left mouse button over it should then print out....... That is provided you have not changed the settings on your mouse buttons in the Control Panel... default settings are for the left mouse button to be the click or drag button, for right handed people..... If you're left handed and set the mouse up for left hand operation then you might have the right button as the click and drag button, and the left button is used to get the drop down menu of operation choices....

Hopefully, one answer or the other will be your solution..... Grin .... let us know how you make out with the problem...... Al
