Certainly with dial-up connections, but can also occur with DSL or cable broadband connections, when the connection/download speed is not fast enough you have to give the file a little while to download (buffer ahead for awhile) and then click the play arrow to watch it........ All buffering is just the downloading of the video onto your computer.

Many folks have to start the downloading and then click the pause button and go off and do something else for a couple of minutes while the downloading (buffering) continues..... then they can click the play button and view the entire download........ You could also have an AV program that is scanning the downloading file which slows it down a little, or not getting the full potential out of your DSL connection because of old phone lines or being to far from a phone company switching station......... You can run some speed tests on the web or/and check with your phone company to check to be sure you are getting the speed that you pay for the DSL connection.......
