I periodically drive cross country for family visits and use a Verizon phone on a Verizon account. I get quite good coverage across the nation.... But, I was just wondering about those phones that are generic (or not AT&T, Verizon, or affiliated with a specific phone company) - such as those which you can buy at WalMart, Walgreens, Target, and similar national stores here is the US - just paying by the minute via a phone card, etc.......

My curiosity is about the coverage and network sharing these phones would need to use and whether any one in particular is better for national travel, staying in good connection range. Since they don't seem to be tied down to a particular phone company, and share the various networks airwaves, I am wondering if such phones would be good for national travel or not? Or, are they better in major metro areas, but easily lose their way when traveling in more non-metro, rural areas of USA? Wondering what experiences any have had.................Thanks, curious George BigToe........ Grin
