Old TV commercials

I got some great advice about trying to relate to my father in law, who is now living with us from the Eldercare message board here. Sandy suggested a book of jokes, but that won't work for me. But dad and I started talking about old tv commercials and we had a ball remembering the old jingles and such. So far we have thought of
Ipana toothpaste -- brusha, brusha, brusha
Brylcream -- a little dab will do you
Maxwell House -- the perky coffee brewing
Anyone remember any more??

What a great way of connecting, drawing upon the strength of long term memory..... a few came to mind:
Pepsodent Toothpaste... You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent
Winston Cigarettes ... Winston tastes good like a cigarette should
Hamm's Beer ... From the land of sky blue waters
Favorite gelatin dessert ... J-E-L-L-O
N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best...... chocolate...
I was a Ford man, but recall the song "See the USA, in your Chrevrolet"
Double your pleasure, double your fun, with Wrigley's Spearmint Gum.......
I'm sure there are probably web sites that hold jingles and sayings that could be used in Trivia Pursuit or similar games.... Might even be able to find a site with pictures of old products. You could show your F_I_L the pics and let him try to recall the advertisement saying that went along with that product.... Maybe even some Burma Shave sayings from those great roadside signs that we looked for while traveling....
My F_I_L was totally disabled with a brain injury from an explosion during WW2, and when we could get him talking about some of his pre-injury adventures, or stories of his youthful adventures when growing up in small lakeside communities in Minnesota, there were great days of conversation. He's 93 now and paranoia and dementia have set in and his children can't really be around him due to some imagined conspiracy that all are out to get him, etc., and his paranoia taking over prevents the visiting, but those old story days were enjoyable. His vanity wouldn't allow us to tape record those stories, such a shame as he is a self taught farm boy with no formal education but a wonderful vocabulary from all his reading and listening to baseball on the radio....LOL....Maybe some of this will give you some ideas to help.....
