How do I insert symbols not on my keyboard?

Here is a tutorial from Sandy which includes shortcuts for inserting symbols on both Windows and Mac computers:

Believe that Sandy included this, but with word processing programs many times you can insert symbols via the menu bar at the top of the WP page.... clicking Insert >> Symbols >> and then selecting from the list presented...
