For those who are still using Win98/98SE or who are still becoming familiar with Windows XP - Home, Pro or Media - it is true that in just a few days the non-commercial release of M$ Windows Vista operating system (6 different versions) will be occurring..... If you are a happy Win98SE user, not to worry, even the UK Government is suggesting there is no hurry to get the update ...

You can read this link in the Info Gazette http://go.infopackets.com/e20070119-04 and get a feel for why they are offering the "wait and see" suggestion and indicating foolishness for those who just must have "the newest and bestest right now" .... First, you have to make a determination of which of the 6 different Vista Program offerings might be satisfactory to you and your needs...Then you have to wonder how soon the patches and safeguard updates will be coming out.....

Just some thoughts as the time for the release arrives ........ As for me, I am still quite happy with the Home and the Pro versions of XP and do not anticipate "moving on" to Vista for some time... But, for those who decide to make the jump.... Please help out with the questions that will be flooding in, your "been there, done that experiences" will be quite informative and most helpful to those who made the leap.........And, since earlier versions of Windows and Vista are not going to be compatible - interchangeable, that is program/product wise, having your experiences will be most welcome.......

And, whether you go Vista or not, remember these things are fun, are fun, are fun, are............

BT, thanks for your post with this information.  I am definitely not one to jump right in as soon as something new comes out.  I waited until the latter part of December to install IE7, after reading and re-reading some of the problems users were having, and then reading the answers/solutions. This helped me from the start, knowing a little bit of what to expect and how to mess around with it so I could customize it to my liking.  I am getting along with it very well.  Which brings up a question as I think about it.  IE6 was called MICROSOFT Internet Explorer and I see that IE7 shows WINDOWS Internet Explorer.  What's the deal?

Like you, BT, I'm in no hurry to try Vista, at least not for the first year or so.  Most operating systems take a year or two to get all the kinks out.  And I love the NT technology that 2000 and XP are built on--they are much more stable than 98 and much easier to use than ME.

Bernie .... I'm just taking an educated guess on the change, as it might be related to two occcurences... one was the M$ loss in the European Market that has cause them to release new products over there without some of the preloaded included programs, thus a different couple of Vista versions are for Europe and different than for the rest of the world.... and the other is all the new programs they have come up with for spyware, virus and spam controls all seeming to be called Windows Live One ...blah, blah, blah.... Perhaps they feel the M$ name might have a tarnish with it and decided to emphasize the Windows name and dispurse some of the MAC competition... Would be interesting to see what their sales forces and PR folks have to say...

Carole .... That waiting for the dust to settle attitude probably wouldn't go over to big with their PR folks at M$...hahaha  Cheesy Roll Eyes... but it is full of common sense and presents a heck of a lot less aggravation, letting them work out the bugs and insecurities in the OS and to give programmers more time to write programs that will function smoothly with Vista... Will be fun to sit back and see all the headaches 'early birds' get....
