bigtoe, How do I remove Windows Virtual Desktop Manager from my computer? It does not show in "Add and Remove Programs" I would guess because it is a plugin. I've tried Google with no success. Can you help? Ed

Hi Ed ... uninstalling the feature from Power Toys (which isn't supported by Microsoft.... go figure) may take removing the entire Power Toys add-on completely or a registry tweak to do so, provided that you don't find it in the Add/Remove Programs feature of Control Panel.... The steps would be similar to these directions for a manual uninstall of the Power Toy Tweak UI : http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/how-to-manually-uninstall-tweak-ui-210-in-xp/

To exit Virtual Desktop Manager so it is not actively being used or running on the computer just right-click the Taskbar on a blank spot, point to Toolbars, and from the resultant list of toolbars just uncheck Desktop Manager by clicking on it in the list.

You can read up on using the Desktop Manager feature at this link:
http://www.brighthub.com/computing/windows-platform/articles/7100.aspx

Good luck.... Al

***ADD info*** ... As always, when you visit the web pages for steps or information on a subject matter, remember not to click on any of those come-on advertisements that you find for Optimizers, registry tweaks, and "Mom's Apple Pie Cooker" and other malarky... One can get those registry tweaks and really mess up their computers with the advertised garbage. One area of a computer that really needs no messing with is the registry.... Just thought I would mention this for any readers of this post as I saw a lot of ads on those pages since I was using the IE8 browser and not using my regular Firefox with the add-on called AdBlock Plus which cuts out a lot of that garbage..... bigtoe, Thanks for the response. However, from another source, I recieved another suggestion. I went to System 32 and removed file MSVDM.dll. Virtual Desktop Manager is gone, but I don't know yet whether or not I took anything else with it. It took a fresh reboot for windows to remove the file from System 32. I saved MSVDM.dll to a folder in case I find that I have to put it back. Ed

Good news Ed... Glad it is gone for you.... that removal was part of the registry tweaking process, but removing the dynamic library link for MSVDM (MicroSoft Virtual Desktop Manager) did the trick....

Thanks for returning and giving the follow-up posting that will help others with the same problem..... Wink ......... The joys of computers are we have several ways of doing the same thing... although, sometimes wonder if that doesn't just confuse us....LOL.....

Happy Puterin' ..... Al
