When I click on the "Word" icon to open word 2007 a box appears (User Account Control) asking me if I want to allow the following program to make changes to my computer.  If I click yes it will proceed to open word.  My user account is set on the default setting.  Also in the default setting I am unable to open any word programs from windows Explorer.  If I change the setting to "never notify" word will work correctly.  Excel on the other hand has no problems opening either from the icon or opening a file from windows explorer.  Any suggestions?

Howdy... Need a couple of clarifications and a bit of additional info... You are saying Windows Explorer and there really isn't such an animal.... I think you are meaning Internet Explorer (such as IE7 or IE8 browsers) as Explore is the diagram of your hard drive layout (do a right click on the START button and choose Explore or Explore all users) and I don't think you are trying to open Office Word 2007 from there but rather from your browser.....Microsoft didn't make computers easy for us when they name their different systems and products with names that are almost identical to each other, causes a lot of confusion for we computer users.. Sad.

Since you are getting the UAC that likely asks you to run the program as the Administrator, I also make the presumption that you are using either Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems (Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. versions) since you don't get asked that in http://Windows XP or earlier versions of the Windows operating systems....

One thing you can do is to right click the icon on the desktop and select to "run as administrator" as the question it asks is the UAC "security" feature that is included with Vista and possibly Windows 7 (although Win7 is supposed to do that a lot less asking because of all the complaints from Vista users). I'm hoping to buy a Win7 laptop soon but to this point I don't use Vista or Win7 so tend to answer from the standpoint of a WinXP user who just reads about Vista and Win7 problems or solutions... Wink.... You can also turn off the UAC in Win Vista and save some headaches as long as you are a safe computer user and have adequate protective programs - especially if you are the primary or main user of the computer it is convenient not to use the UAC.

You might also want to create a new shortcut to Word 2007 on your desktop if the Excel shortcut is fine and the problem is confined to Word 2007.... Now you can  click on START, go to All Programs and then Microsoft Word, do a right click and select "Send to desktop" (put shortcut on desktop).... that would give an uncorrupted shortcut path for the computer to find and open Word 2007.

Hope these general tips help, or if you could provide some specific info on operating system and browser being used and what you mean by windows explorer, then someone can be more specific... Smiley
