Olympus 600 Tough Digital camera slow to take pictures

I have this camera and love the pictures but it seems very slow to take pictures. My son borrowed the camera and agreed with me. He has a friend who owns the same camera and it works much faster. Does anyone know if I might need a faster card or if their are settings to improve the speed in taking pictures?
