Viewzi Visual Search Engine Print
Written by Sandy Berger

eyearrow80.jpgViewzi is a new search engine that presents everything in a visual mode rather than in plain text. Not only is the effect different, but the idea of working with different views of the search results is also very unusual.

To use the Viewzi search engine, you type in your search term, and then choose the view that you want to use. Choose News View, Web Screenshot View, Simple Text View, Video xS View, Amazon Book View, MP3 Search View, Recipe View, Shopping View, Site information View, or several more. There are 17 different views in all.

You will want to try this free search engine to get the full gist of it as it is very different. For instance, when I searched for "George Washington", I got some expected results as well as some surprises - and all were presented visually.

The Site Information View gave traffic and content information for georgewashington.com. As expected, the Amazon Book view presented books on George Washington. The Video xS View returned videos on a horse named George Washington, a video of Kermit the Frog dressed as George Washington, a video of George Washington University , a video of George Washington Carver, and many more. The Everyday Shopping View presented me with visual pictures of statues, photos, history kits and many other items pertaining to George Washington.

The Web Screenshot View gave the most expected information like a biography of George Washington , a Wikipedia entry, and the story of George Washington's life from Whitehouse.gov. Yet, even these were presented in a visual view. So instead of looking at a text listing of the suggested websites, you see the actual websites in a visual mode.

I really liked the visual results and felt that the out-of-the-box way of looking at the search results was both refreshing and quite informative. However, I found the various search views a bit difficult to access. If you are used to using some of the more visual social websites, you may be comfortable with the scrolling banner where you choose your view. I, however, didn't like the interface at all.
My guess is that Viewzi is really geared at younger users. In fact, I thought that the girl doing the video that explains the site looked like she was about 10 years old. Well, in any case, I think the experience of this new type of search is worthwhile for users of all ages. Why don't you try it yourself and see what you think.
