Shrink Pic is a free program that automatically shrinks photos that you attach to an email. You simply install the program and after that everyt ime you attach a large photograph to an email, it is automatically shrunk to the proper size. It will even turn other photo formats like BMP and PNG files into JPEGS, which is the most common type of photo file that everyone will be able to open. This program was suggested by Bigtoe aka Al Brown on the Compu-KISS message boards. Here are his comments:
"It runs in the background on your computer and then any time that you send emails with pictures attached, it will automatically shrink those pictures if too large down to a small .jpg extension size so you won't have frustration with sending pictures that others can't receive..... either because they are too big, or they prefer not to have to wait long periods of time while their email program downloads gigantic sized files..... The website listed above will show and explain all about it......... I have a friend who just can't seem to use a free file hosting site on the web, or just can't seem to remember to shrink/compress the gigantic file sized pictures she sends by email... and once she started using the program I sent her, the benefit to me and all the other folks on her email group list is tremendous.......... I'm sure that some of those folks who are limited to dial-up connections and had to wait for 10 minutes or more for her gigantic email attachments to download have been overjoyed........ "
When using Outlook and/or Outlook Express, the program notified me that it had shrunk the photos. When using Gmail, there was no notification, but the photos were still properly sized.
Shrink Pic is a fantastic program. It should be built into all email programs, but since it is not, we will have to download and install it ourselves. Once you try this one, you won't want to be without it.
