Remove USB Hardware Easily Print

usbdrivecomputer.jpgIf you use a USB device like a thumb drive, portable hard drive, iPod, or digital camera you probably know that you should let Windows eject the device before you pull it out of the USB port on the computer.  Unfortunately, the Windows “Safely Remove Hardware” system is difficult to use. There is a free program that makes it really easy.

The USB Disk Ejector something that should have been included with Windows, but wasn’t. It is a small program that is easily downloaded. Once it is downloaded, when you click on its icon, it will appear on your screen listing the removable drives that are currently on your system. If you add more devices, they will automatically appear. All the devices are clearly labeled.

So, when you are ready to remove any device, click on the USB Disk Ejector program to start it. Then just click on the icon of the device you want to remove in the Disk Ejector window. The icon will disappear indicating that the device can be removed. This program eliminates Windows confusing “Mass Storage Device” windows and also eliminates the “Safe to Remove Hardware” message. This free program is worth installing because it makes safely removing your hardware really easy.

One note: The program is downloaded as a zip file. Once you unzip the file, you should drag the .exe file to your desktop where you can easily access it.

The Disk Ejector currently works with only Windows XP and Windows Vista. The author has indicated support for Windows 98/Me/2000 might be available in the next version. There is also a command line where advanced users can customize the way the program works.

This program is free. If you like it, make a donation to the author at Quick and Easy Software.
