piano keys.jpgIf you like to swing and sway to the beat, nothing beats free digital music. You can play it on your computer, listen to it on your digital music player, or use a device like the Whole House Transmitter, the DLO HomeDock Music Remote, or the Sonos Multi-Room Digital Music Player to play it throughout your home. Today’s freebie includes 25 free songs and 1 free audiobook……yours for the taking!

Much of the music that you download from the iTunes store and other online services have copy-protection built in. This limits the number of times that you can copy the music tracks. Some online services let you download all the music you want for a set monthly fee, but when you stop the service, all the music you downloaded becomes unusable.

eMusic is different. All of their music is in high-quality MP3s, which are playable on any device and have no copy protection. Refreshingly, this is music that you own and can use as you like for personal use.

eMusic offers 25 free songs and 1 free audio book just for trying the service. If you like the service after two weeks you will pay $9.99 per month for up to 30 songs per month, $14.99 for 50 songs, or $19.99 for 75 songs per month.  But under the free offer you are under no obligation to continue and the free music and audiobook are yours to keep.

You have to give your credit card number when you sign up for the free songs and book, and you have to remember to cancel your subscription after the two week trial if you don't want to continue. However, the free music and book is worth the effort, even if you don't want to continue the membership. To discontinue the service after you download your music you simply click on "Your Account" at the top right of the window, choose Cancel Music Membership and/or Cancel Audiobooks Membership from the vertical menu on the left.

There are over 3.5 million music tracks available from eMusic, with new artists, albums, and labels being added every week. eMusic focuses on independent labels, so you can find a wide variety of music, including old standards as well as immerging artists and songs.

Once you sign up, you simply download a small eMusic download manager. Then any song you down load is placed in the download manager on your desktop where you can play the music or move it to any location. Simple instructions  on listed in the FAQs on the eMusic website for getting the music into iTunes, Windows Media Player Musicmatch, and RealPlayer, which you can do easily, if you like.
