health/medicine.jpgMillions of Americans have turned to the Internet for cheaper drug prices, but they may be surprised to learn that for millions of consumers the best deals are available from pharmaceutical companies in the form of patient assistance programs.

If you're uninsured or underinsured and are having trouble paying for your medications, a Web site can help you find and apply for free and discount drug programs. Dozens of pharmaceutical companies have patient assistance programs that have been helping low income consumers pay for their medicines for decades. Now, a new tool on is making it much easier to apply.

Sharon Brigner from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) says “It used to be you had to determine which programs you were eligible for and then fill out a separate application for each program. With this new tool on the site, all you need to do is answer one short set of questions - then the computer tells you which programs you are eligible for and creates separate applications based on your answers.”

Patients can determine their eligibility for various patient assistance programs and download a free copy of the program directory at or at PhRMA's website.
