It’s easy to find the exact location of a ZIP code when you have Internet access. You can use the U.S. Postal Service’s free Zip Code Lookup. Or you can simply enter a ZIP code in any search engine to find the correct location for that ZIP code.
Yet, I prefer to use the Zipdecode Web site for my ZIP code searches. The Zipdecode site has a map of the United States with small dots, each one representing a ZIP code. You simply click on the map, and enter the digits of the ZIP code you are searching for. As you type each of the 5-digits of any ZIP code you will see the map zoom in on the correct location. It’s a little gimmicky, but is ultimately very engrossing. Be sure to use the hints on the screen to enable the zooming feature and use the backspace key to erase the current look-up so you can enter another ZIP code. The ZIP code lookup is part of Ben Fry’s Web site. Ben is a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory.
