Vision Aid - JORDY Print E-mail
vision/jordy.jpgEnhanced Vision, the leading manufacturer of innovative low vision solutions, today announced the youngest legally blind user of its JORDY glasses has independently earned a high school degree with salutatorian honors and a national merit scholarship to the University of Florida.

He was also elected president of the national honor society, named outstanding senior for Pasco County, and led the school swim team as captain.

Doug Webber, 18, was born with a variety of low vision conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, retina detachments and near-sightedness. His vision is 20/400 (left) and 20/800 (right).

When Webber was ten years old, he began using a head-worn device called the Low Vision Enhancement System (LVES), realized by research between NASA's Stennis Space Center, Johns Hopkins University and the Department of Veterans Affairs. As technology evolved, Webber upgraded to the JORDY 1 and JORDY 2, developed by Enhanced Vision.

The JORDY 2 glasses incorporate a miniature, auto-focus digital video camera to project images directly on to the user's eye at up to 30x magnification, allowing those who have low vision conditions to see again. Wearing the 8 oz. JORDY, Webber can read books and see the teacher, participate in class, complete his homework and even enjoy movies and the TV with friends-- independently.

"No way I could have completed school without JORDY," said Webber. "It gives me functioning sight, but moreover gives me the drive to use my gifts and succeed."

About JORDY 2

The JORDY 2 headworn display works by using two CCD digital cameras that are controlled by a miniature computer that changes contrast magnification and brightness and replays the image on two postage size digital television sets, all built in a goggle-type device that weighs less than 8 oz. The JORDY 2 is paired with a desktop plug-n-play docking station for additional flexibility to read and write in stationary environments.
