Smithsonian National Zoo Print E-mail
animals/lion.jpgIf you love animals, but can’t make the trip to Washington, DC to see the National Zoo, gather the family, relax in your chair, and take a virtual tour online. Just click on the animal picture for the area you want to visit. From reptiles to giant pandas, there is something for everyone. Each area has photos, information, study papers and activity guides. Many also have Web cams so you can actually view the animals’ activities as they occur.

The Great Cat area is a must see. Several Web cams show the three Sumatran tiger cubs that were born on May 2, 2004. You can visit the cubs and their grandmother, brother, and father and you can read the tiger cub diary. There is plenty to see and do here with all the zoo’s great cats. For instance, click on Meet the Zoo’s Cheetahs, and you’ll be introduced to Ume, Norok, and Amadi the three male cheetahs. You will also meet Jomu, Wandu, Tumai, and Zazi their female counterparts. You will see a picture of each and learn where they were born, their family ties, and even their likes and dislikes. From lions and tigers to leopards and cheetahs there are pictures and facts that will make you feel like you are really there.

This is armchair tourism at its best!
