Phony Microsoft Email Print E-mail
internet/email.jpgDid you recently receive an email from Microsoft with a patch for one of its products attached? Well, it may have looked like a message from Microsoft, but in reality it is part of an email scam. You can be sure that this is not a legitimate Microsoft email because Microsoft never sends patches or software as email attachments.

These emails are varied in nature. Some will direct you to a Web Site where you will be instructed to download an executable file. Others include an attachment that will unleash a deadly virus when they are opened. Don't fall for this one. Just realize that Microsoft's name is being used to entice people to open and/or download destructive files. It's not surprising, since Microsoft seems to come up with patch after patch for their products, especially the popular versions of Windows and Internet Explorer. But remember, Microsoft patches are distributed only through the Microsoft Web Site.

For more information on bogus Microsoft email see the Microsoft TEchNet Web Site.
