New Year’s Resolutions for Everyone Print

newyeartray.jpg1. Backup important files. Nothing can ruin a day or even a week more than having to reconstruct files because of a power glitch or hard drive failure. Portable external hard drives have become really cheap. Get one and back up regularly. Or sign up for Carbonite, an online backup solution that is both secure and easy to use.

2. Keep your inbox clean. I have seen people who keep thousands of pieces of email in their inbox. This will slow down your email program and may even make it crash. Don't take chances. Delete email that you don't need and move email that you want to save into other folders. This will keep you more organized and is sure to make you feel better as well.

3. Take the time to figure out how to use the equipment you already own. Whether it's a cell phone, digital camera, or portable music player, it can probably do more than you realize. So get out the manual and take some time to get to really know the gadget. You'll be glad you did.

4. Have fun with your computer. The computer and the Internet make it easy to try a new hobby. And there are many free resources. If you love music, check out Pandora and Internet radio stations. If you like taking digital photo try out Picasa for photo editing and organization or Photoshop Express. Both are free and easy to use.

5. Check out all the free stuff on the Internet. The Compu-KISS Free Stuff area will give you plenty of choices of free programs that are safe and fun to use. You can save money this year, have fun and be more productive at the same time.
