Light Bulbs That Save $$ Print E-mail
objects/lightbulbinhand80.jpgOur parents always told us to turn the light off when we left a room. Yet, our energy bills continue to rise -- as an average household spends about $1,400 a year on energy bills. Now, there is an even easier way to save money -- and protect the environment -- than turning off the light.

By just changing the light bulb in your home, you can save time, energy and money. New not only give off high quality light but also use less energy. CFLs can save up to 75 percent of the energy typically used in an incandescent light bulb. CFLs will also last 13 times longer than normal light bulbs -- saving you money over the life of the bulb.

Not only are CFLs more convenient -- saving you trips up the ladder to change a light bulb -- they also help the environment. If every household in America replaced one light bulb with a CFL, it would prevent the pollution equivalent to removing one million cars from the road.

To ensure you've selected the most energy efficient bulbs for your home, check the packaging for an Energy Star label. Products carrying the label are required to perform the same or better than standard products, while meeting the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Energy.
