Age-related decline in mental ability affects 100% of the population. No one is spared, but you can take action to forestall this decline.
Experts recommend:
- Getting sufficient sleep
- Reducing stress levels
- Practicing paying attention to details
- Getting physical exercise
- Maintaining normal blood pressure
And – last but not least --
- Stimulating your mind intellectually
The computer can help you with this last suggestion. I was once contacted by a person who, through a tragic accident, lost his short-term memory. The doctors recommended that he take up the computer to try to stimulate his mind. He purchased my first book, How to Have a Meaningful Relationship with Your Computer, and called to say that because he couldn’t remember everything in the book, he reread it over and over again. He said he probably read my words more than any one in the world, and guess what? He began making progress. Learning the computer was a conduit to his recovery.
Those of us with normal mental abilities need to protect our capabilities. The computer is a great tool for keeping your mind active and healthy. I recommend trying something new on the computer every day. Try a new program, a different way of doing things, or a completely new endeavor. I also recommend that you play with your computer every day. That’s right, play some games! Games have been proven to exercise your memory, increase hand/eye coordination, and promote mental health.
Even playing solitaire on the computer is good. You may also want to try some of the stimulating free games in the Compu-KISS game area. Get your brain working. You'll be glad you did!!
