To make sure that your computer is not infected, you can start your antivirus software and run a full system scan. If you do not currently have an antivirus program installed (shame on you!!) you can download AVG free or Avast. Panda has a free scanner. Many of the antivirus programs that you pay for, like Symantec, offer a 30 day trial that you can also use to scan your computer.

If you cannot install an antivirus program or cannot get to the websites of the antivirus manufacturers, it is a pretty sure sign that you are infected with Conficker or some other virus. In general, when you try to access www.symantec.com or www.mcafee.com, or other major antivirus websites, your web browser will just time out. You may not get an error, you will just never reach your destination.
